Music to my ears

I got myself a new stereo system at last. It’s a really nice Sony (natch) CD/MD/Tape/Tuner unit and although not as hi end as George‘s new system it wasn’t as expensive either. (I’d still kill for his speakers, though!)

It’s great to be able to listen to CD’s again without either playing them on the PC or on the PS2, neither of which are really the tool for the job. The sound is fantastic from the new stereo, and kind of emphasises the failings in my old Kenwood seperates that we gave to my cousin when we moved last.

To celebrate my new found audio paradise I spent the afternoon recording myself a minidisc full of retro 90’s dance tunes, just for fun. I’m easily pleased when I have a new toy.

Glad that one’s over

What a weird week. I have to say that I’m glad it’s the weekend now, as there have been so many ups and downs I just want to have a rest from it all.

What sucks is that there were several good things that happened this week which would normally have made me pretty pleased. But these were tamed somewhat by some bad things that happened, to the extent that on a scale of bad and good the week has pretty much been a downer.

Today has been a departure from bad things, so far. I got my money back from that fraud thing that happened a few weeks ago. Quite pleased with that, really, as I was starting to worry that it was four hundred pounds I’d never see again.

I’ve also arrived at a point where I’m several days ahead of where I thought I’d be in my project at work. This is tops because I can now concentrate on doing some Very Cool Stuff ™ that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.

Due to the above, next week could go pretty well, which would be a nice change. If it begins with the arrival of yet another Order That Time Forgot ™ from Scan Hardware, I might even jump for joy!

Ah pity the fool who has to do this!

I went on one of those funky team building courses on Monday just gone. It was actually quite good fun compared to some of the MoD ones I’ve been on in the past. Sure, it had a couple of dull bits, but since I work by myself for the most part it was good fun to mix with other folk from the building and get creative with the tasks we were given.

One of which was concepting a soap opera, and due to elements that were out of control our team managed to come up with “The Aged Team!” This was a take on the life of the A Team as they are now – in a retirement hospital. I can tell as I’m writing this that you really had to be there to get this one, but it was pretty funny at the time.

Funny up until you have to present it to fifty people including managment on the final day of your probation with the company!

I’ve no idea what sort of an impression it made – it wasn’t the winning concept and quite rightly so, I believe, as the winner was a damn sight less surreal than ours. When you add that kind of thing to a day where you threw eggs at your colleagues as part of a risk assessment exersize, it kind of makes me realise why these things are few and far between!
