Scan finds nothing…

I don’t know why I fall for this every six months or so, but I really hope this is the last time. Scan hardware managed to stall me for a week before finally admitting on Monday morning that the flash-ram drive I’m after isn’t in stock and probably wont be in the near future. Goddamit!

What funks me off is that I believe in giving places like Scan a second chance… and a third in this instance. But there comes a time when you have to draw the line. Before anyone thinks I’m being a bit harsh, I should explain further how I came to order from Scan when they’d let me down in the past. Well, Scan have this Today Only thing, where they list some products on their site and knock a few quid off for that day only. I mean, slag me for being an optimist, but you’d expect them to have the funking product in stock if they’re offering it at a bargain price for that day only!

So here I am, almost ten days later without a flash-ram drive. Luckily it wasn’t essential or I’d have been climbing the walls. Anyhow, I didn’t take much pleasure from cancelling my order on Monday… or rather, I told them to forget about the flash-ram drive and just send me the USB hub keyboard that I’d ordered to go with it. Surprizingly the keyboard was in stock, but not so surprizingly it hasn’t turned up yet – so I’m still no better off.

Anyhow, rant over, but be warned, you know – steer clear of Scan Hardware.

Music to my ears

I got myself a new stereo system at last. It’s a really nice Sony (natch) CD/MD/Tape/Tuner unit and although not as hi end as George‘s new system it wasn’t as expensive either. (I’d still kill for his speakers, though!)

It’s great to be able to listen to CD’s again without either playing them on the PC or on the PS2, neither of which are really the tool for the job. The sound is fantastic from the new stereo, and kind of emphasises the failings in my old Kenwood seperates that we gave to my cousin when we moved last.

To celebrate my new found audio paradise I spent the afternoon recording myself a minidisc full of retro 90’s dance tunes, just for fun. I’m easily pleased when I have a new toy.

Glad that one’s over

What a weird week. I have to say that I’m glad it’s the weekend now, as there have been so many ups and downs I just want to have a rest from it all.

What sucks is that there were several good things that happened this week which would normally have made me pretty pleased. But these were tamed somewhat by some bad things that happened, to the extent that on a scale of bad and good the week has pretty much been a downer.

Today has been a departure from bad things, so far. I got my money back from that fraud thing that happened a few weeks ago. Quite pleased with that, really, as I was starting to worry that it was four hundred pounds I’d never see again.

I’ve also arrived at a point where I’m several days ahead of where I thought I’d be in my project at work. This is tops because I can now concentrate on doing some Very Cool Stuff ™ that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.

Due to the above, next week could go pretty well, which would be a nice change. If it begins with the arrival of yet another Order That Time Forgot ™ from Scan Hardware, I might even jump for joy!
