WZ V3

I’m re-designing WipeoutZone at the moment, as it has been due an overhaul for a very long time. Fortunately my previous attempt at a standards compliant design has left the template pages pretty bare of formatting, so it’s been quite simple to swiftly try out new designs.

However, the back-end code will take far more effort than in the past – some of the stuff in there is just archaic in php terms, so I don’t know how long it will be before the new site is done. I have to get a new log-in system in place for it, as well as some other session based stuff in order to make it a better browsing experience.

I do want to get it right before I even think about uploading it, though – none of your Zeldman BS about designing in public. Delivering a new site all at once has more impact and gives a better feeling of accomplishment than drip feeding it to cyberspace. It’s a bit more pro into the bargain.

Sky’s the limit

After a few months of deliberating, we just got Sky digital installed at home. The amount of channels available is quite impressive, but then again… so is the amount of dirge available from them.

I’m mostly looking forward to the NFL season opener on Friday morning (2am, FFS!) – getting to see the *Jets kick off against the Redskins will be pretty cool in itself. Other than that I’m quite looking forward to having the extreme sports channel and episodes of the Simpsons made this millennia.

Fliss, of course, will just channel hop and catch a bit of absolutely everything that’s on… especially if it’s some kind of celebrity scandal or, as I discovered last night, premature babies being delivered by cesarian. Yuk. ;o)

Bright Eyes

Well, after the scare of a week ago, my right eye is returning to normal. I’m down to two eye-drops a day now and the halo’s I was getting when the lights were dim have lessened over time. Now it’s like I cant remember if I had them before the injury or not!

Other than the night it happened, the weirdest part of the experience has to be when my pupils were dilated during my check-up on Sunday. After the eye exam I left the building to the harsh glow of a bright afternoon, realising my pupils couldn’t contract to block out the light. That and I could only really focus on things that were five or six feet away, although Kieran had forewarned me about that bit.

It really was surreal – I went for a walk around the music and game shops, but couldn’t focus on the cd cases in order to read what was on them. Decided that a look in Top Man would be a better waste of time until I could safely drive home, but strangely having completely shagged sight didn’t make their range look any better! ;o)

Ah well, I’m definately on the road to recovery, and for that I’m relieved in a big way. Although this was a bit of a freak accident, I’m definately going to take good care of my eyes from now on.
