A tale of two movies

From lack of anything better to do I ended up watching Beverly Hills Cop 2 the other night. It had been some time since I’d viewed the adventures of Axel Foley & co and I really enjoyed it. There’s something so cool about the 80‘s immersion of that film – I always find myself looking out for tell tale 80’s crapola in the background! And I love LA too – it’s over a year now since my holiday there and I’m really hankering for another visit. If only it didn’t cost so damn much, I’d go again in an instant.

Sticking with the movie theme, I also caught a preview of Spider-Man, which is firmly planted in the 21st century. I enjoyed it, but I cant say it left me feeling upbeat. It is a good adaptation of the comic books I was so fond of when I was little, though… I’m almost tempted to climb about the outside of the house again in the same way that brought many a stern word from my mum.

At last an update

Wow – I cant believe that it’s over a week since I last posted an update. A summary of events is in order…

Fliss’ 20th birthday night out was a good laugh last Friday – mostly thanks to Kieran suggesting we went for a meal first. Good one! The rest of the long weekend was whiled away quite tamely in comparison.

Monday night made for a fun, though, with the jubilee fireworks down at the Albert Dock and the beverages consumed afterward it made me feel almost patriotic. Almost.

Tuesday, myself and Dado went skateboarding back down at the Albert Dock. I was fairly pants… in my defence I was using my good board, which is totally different from my usual board that Dado was using. So add to that the fact I didn’t want it to get damaged… and the trucks were way too loose to control any landings. Ack – what the heck, I would have been pants regardless. Dado was pretty decent for his first time out in a few years, though. He’s already better than me at football, so I really must practice on the skateboard to close the gap.

On Thursday this week the big kahuna was in the building at work. The man himself was given a tour of the intranet I’ve developed and gave it a resounding thumbs up! Wahey!

Of course, I was totally stoked, and my boss was too, along with his boss, so it really made my week. It’s only now that the project is taking shape and gaining momentum, so to be told by the big kahuna himself that it would be of use to other studios was really ace.

National Sports Car Show 2002

Lotus EspritWent to the above at the NEC in Birmingham at the weekend – check out the pictures. For the most part it was just a matter of feeling resentful of all the middle aged dudes in beards driving fantastic looking sports cars.

It was good to get up close to a few personal favourites, though – the GT-40 and the DeLorean were fantastic to see. The guy who owned the DeLorean in the pictures was nice enough to explain how he’d come to own it and the plans he had in future to restore it. Not that it looked like it needed much restoring, but I guess that owning a classic car is an ongoing project.

The only disappointments were the size of the show – it was in a pretty small hall and a walk around didn’t take long at all. The other let down was TOCA Race Driver – being shown for the first time by Codemasters. I had a practice before entering their competition, but the game was so crap that I didn’t even bother entering. Seems I’ll have to look elsewhere for a decent racing game on the PS2.
