Following in the wake of their successful multi-peripheral music game, Rock Band, Electronic Arts announced today the forthcoming release of Porn Star for PlayStation 3, XBox 360 and Wii gaming consoles.
“People have been saying for far too long that EA just churn out annual updates to existing franchises, but this is a brand new IP that I think takes the whole concept of peripheral based gaming and busts it wide open.” Commented lead designer Randy Smith at EA LA.
“We’ve kept this one under the duvet, so to speak, for a long while.” Smith reveals. “But we’re deep, deep into the development cycle – I’ve personally put over 100 hours of play testing into each peripheral and I cannot wait until gamers can get their hands on our work.”
It’s no coincidence that the Los Angeles based studio was chosen to create such a groundbreaking new genre. Being at the very heart of the adult entertainment industry, EA LA is a natural fit.
“It’s been a great location, research-wise, for sure.” Smith agrees. “We’ve had a crack team of real life porn stars come in and play the game to make sure we’re doing it right, offer advice and help us make the Porn Star experience as authentic as possible.”
Cynics might suggest that, with the era of the music peripheral game now seemingly at an end, EA have merely repurposed the Rock Band game engine in order to bring Porn Star to market. Smith is quick to refute that claim;
“This certainly hasn’t been a port. You simply can’t take something like, say, Overdrive from Rock Band and map that game mechanic to the Climaxometer of Porn Star.” He explains. “For a start you can’t use it in the middle of a scene unless all the other players are ready to activate their Climaxometer, too. Not to mention the fact that Porn Star has facial recognition technology – gamers are going to be able to break out their ultimate O-Face to boost their scores and rule the community gallery.”
Rich with commercial endorsements from partners such as Fleshlight, Real Dolls, and Viagra, Porn Star aims to bring the glamourous world of the adult entertainment business to the living rooms of gamers the world over when it comes to market in spring 2010.
