Hasta la vista, Arnie!

On Friday night myself and a few of the lads from work went down to the Odeon to catch Terminator 3. I quite enjoyed the movie, even if it wasn’t quite as polished an effort as T2 had been.

For some reason I couldn’t warm to Nick Stahl (John Connor) – I don’t know what it was, but he just played it too much of a wuss to convince me that he’d later be leading the resistance against the machines. Arnie was Arnie – same as ever, but looking a little frayed around the edges at his age. And Claire Danes was okay, I guess, but did they have to make her look so dull and frumpy compared to the hot T-X?!

Hopefully they’ll leave it there and avoid doing the sequels to death, as I found that the patchwork of adding to an already Swiss-cheese plot served only to weaken a brilliant universe. Indeed, the strongest point of T3, for me, was the sobering ending – puts it all back into perspective after the almost too-tidy ending of T2.

Staggering

David’s Stag Night at the weekend was pretty good fun. We started off by attending a barbeque for a couple of hours, before jetting back to Basingstoke and hitting the pub.

Although someone made the comment that “Basingstoke was a pretty weird place for a stag night”, it turned out to be pretty cool. It has a very modern town centre and a pretty lively crowd filling the pubs and streets on Saturday night despite the persistant rain.

Although most of the evening seems like a blur, I do remember that the Liquid club we ended up in was actually very superb indeed. Although the DJ let the side down at one point by playing a Justin Timberlake medley which cleared the dance floor of pretty much everbody. Typical case of misjudging your audience – I mean, if you have to be 21 to get into the place it’s kind of possible that J “just be limber, baby” T wont be your music of choice.

Anyhow, it was a good night to send David off on his way to married life. We’ll be back down for the big day in a couple of weeks time, too. Hopefully the weather will be up for it next time. :o)

A flying visit

The weekend saw us travelling to and from Scotland in the space of 48 hours in order to attend sister Hazel’s and brother-in-law (to be) Ian’s engagement party.

The car almost knows its own way now, so the drive up was pretty smooth and we picked cousin Iain & Emily up from Glasgow Airport on the way past, pretty much on schedule.

Saturday brought a showery day, with overcast skys – I took the picture on the right just as the Waverly was leaving Helensburgh pier and two seconds later it was lashing it down.

It had cleared up nicely for the party later on in the evening, though, and it turned out to be quite a good night. Much boogie-down with Aunties Mary & Helen was done and it was really cool to see most of the immediate family in one place.

The night ended on a bit of a weird note for myself once we were back at my parents place. After a visit to the bathroom I decided to treat myself to a quick lie down on the bed, you know – just to get my second wind.

Well, that was the last thing I remember doing – woke up on Sunday with a pounding headache and my change was all over the floor, indicating that Fliss had some trouble undressing me!

Happens to the best of us… ;o)

At least there was a cracking British Grand Prix to watch while I regained my composure on Sunday afternoon. I cant remember the last time Formula One had a race that exciting, but it set me up nicely for the drive back down the motorway.
